After two weeks of thinking about what laptop to buy, I’ve finally decided and bought a COMPAQ Presario B1293TU last Saturday. For those who may have been following my posts, I recently blogged about an MSI laptop as my first choice. Specs-wise, it was fully loaded. It was also more affordable than its high-end counterparts. But then, I changed my mind and went for a lower-spec machine that is branded, sleek, mobile, reasonably-priced and meets ALL my needs as an average laptop user. I named it Hardy.

MOBILITY. I find my new COMPAQ Presario B1293TU very mobile at only 1.93 kg (4.5 lbs.) , it’s like your holding a hard bound book. Also, the 12.1 ” WXGA High Definition Widescreen makes it convenient to bring outside (i.e. coffe shops, malls, hotels, etc. ) as it’s not too big nor too small.

FUNCTIONALITY. The Intel Pentium Dual Core processor of my new laptop is not one to rave about since there are already more advanced ones in the market today (hello Intel Quadcore!). But I think it suits me perfectly since I’m not into gaming, heavy downloads and bigtime data storage. I just surf, type, photoshop and watch DVDs. My siblings, on the other hand, are fond of transferring files from their phones to the PC and listening to music. COMPAQ Presario B1293TU meets all our requirements with its complete features. It has integrated bluetooth, WLAN, DVD player, Digital Media reader, 120 GB Hard Disk Drive, Built-in Webcam and good internal audio (2 speakers, integrated microphone). What more can we ask for?

APPEARANCE. COMPAQ Presario B1293TU, just the like the rest from the B1200 Series, is a sleek and sexy machine. It’s not thick at all which doesn’t give a burden carrying around the house or office. I also love the color display and the crystal bright screen even with Windows XP Pro as operating system. I have yet to upgrade to Windows Vista as some drivers are still lacking and I heard some users are encountering problems. I chose the safe side. Apparently, COMPAQ Presario B1293TU has been in the market for just a few months now.

QUALITY. The COMPAQ product line comes from HP and I think that’s already an assurance that my newly-bought laptop is quality and durable. Hopefully, it lasts me years.

VALUE FOR MONEY. At P39,950 (around $890) and with the features I mentioned above, I think it’s quite affordable. I bought mine using a BPI Credit Card. In my case, it has no free OS, just a laptop bag and a 1gb flash drive.

So, the final verdict? I think it’s a good purchase. With COMPAQ Presario B1293Tu, I got what I wanted: mobility, performance and value for money. So far, I haven’t encountered problems with Hardy.

P.S. Let me take this opportunity to thank the people who shared insights with me re: laptop shopping. You have helped narrow down my choices and point me to the laptop that’s best for me and my siblings.

P.P.S. Special thanks to Edwin and Albie for the help, support and patience. :)
