While on leave last Thursday, Edwin, Prince and I trooped to SM-San Lazaro to unwind. One of the highlights of the "date" was watching Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion's movie, "For the First Time."

What you will read next is my brief review of the movie.
Directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal, the movie tells about the story of two young people from the opposite sex who, at first look, seem to lead perfect lives. However, you'll realize sooner than later that it's the other way around. Despite the initial animosity between them, the two fall in love with each other and that's where the conflict starts. Both of them have issues that need to be addressed. There are certain things that do not seem to match. But everything will be ironed out in the end. Simple story? That was my first impression.
But as the movie slowed down in the middle part with serious scenes popping out one after another, I was reduced to tears most of the time. To the delight of my companion. But I didn't care at all. Any girl can relate to Concepcion's character. Sophia (Concepcion) is a tough lady. She's smart and loving. Her past failed relationship still haunts her, to the point that it prevents her from getting the happiness she truly deserves. Until her father learns to forgive her and she starts to believe in herself again.
Gutierrez' character, on the other hand, is typical of many guys. He lives a free life and breaks the heart of women as a pastime. Seth (Gutierrez) learns his lesson when he meets Sophia. He changes his attitude about women and fights for his love for her. In the end, the two reunited to form a union that is bound to last a lifetime. Happy ending.
It's a given that the two stars are physically beautiful. But what caught me in surprise was their depth. They gave justice to their roles. Fresh faces that add glow to the screen + good acting = winner.
Cinematography was just perfect. I love the sights, most of them were shot in Greece. The cast is well-represented. Just like the two lead stars of the movie, it's a combination of Kapuso and Kapamilya talents. Special mentions are Candy Pangilinan and his love interest "Benjo" who served as the clowns of the movie. They were so funny I am smiling right now remembering their comedy.
My final verdict? Four stars out of five. Watch it and you'll agree with me.
P. S. If the name Prince sounds new to you, it's because this is the first time that I mentioned it in this blog. Actually, he's none other than Edwin's new motorcycle which we use only when going to places within the vicinity. Other than that, Prince is usually at home playing with Edwin's father and the La Cocina boys who also have their own motorcycles. Not sure though if theirs have a name. :)
