The recent Make Your Own Havaianas 2008 Event held at SM City Cebu (North Wing) from 19-22 September 2008 was a big success. I was there on the 19th and 20th. I never got the chance to get in the first time due to the huge crowd. We arrived at 7:00 p.m. and the Havaianas entrance was closed already. I returned early the next day and managed to get finished before 12:00 n.n. Nothing beats an early bird.

The venue was full of people all eager to make their own Havaianas.

The line to the entrance was constantly long.

The basic pair (sole and strap) costed P795 ($17.28). Accesories (pins and crystals) were P50 ($1.08) each. Lacinhos are sold at P200 ($4.34) per pair. A decent pair could cost around P1,300 ($28.26).

It's always fun to play with colors.

There were forms to fill up to make the job of the crew at the assembly counter and at the cashier section a lot easier.

The line to the assembly counter was slow-moving. Blame it to the customers who wanted to buy personalized Havaianas flip flops for the entire family.

The crew who assembled the flip flops we bought was very efficient.

I had fun designing my pair of flip flops and those of Albie, Mama Tining and Taps. The soles, straps and accessories available in the venue were overwhelming. I had a hard time choosing the colors of the soles and the straps and finding the perfect accessories to match them. In the end, I stood with my first choice: dark brown slim soles, light pink slim straps, four letter pins (E-D-E-L), a sun-themed pin and a swarovski crystal.

I also bought a pair of lacinhos for my new Havaianas flip flops. They resemble shoe laces but are wider and come in beautiful prints. You are to tie them with your Havaianas flip flops to turn it into a trendy sandal.

A hundred pair of sold Havaianas later, I finally made it to the cashier. Edwin took care of the bill. He bought a total of five pairs. The recepients were Malot, Taps, Albie, Mama Tining and me. Advance Christmas gifts? I hope not. Lol.

Before leaving the venue, we took more photos.
