Edwin and I were able to catch Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen last Thursday at the Cinema 6 of SM City Manila. Even on its second week, the movie continued to attract people. Read my review of Transformers 2 (as well as some spoilers) after the jump...

My only reference to this Transformers "mania" is the movie Transformers 1. I didn't read the comics so don't expect me to give a blow-by-blow account of the movie here. Among the transformers, I still root for Optimus Prime. I think he's holistic approach to everything makes him a real hero to mankind. He's courage and depth (to think he's an alien robot!) is inspiring and his great love for mankind laudable.
I was glued to my seat as the movie progressed. I've always enjoyed watching sci-fi thrillers because animation and visual effects get better over time. In Transformers 2, the final battle between the humans and the alien forces felt like a real war to me. I have to give it to Micheal Bay (Transformers 2 Director) for being able to unleash the necessary emotions out of the characters (yes, alien robots included).
Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox did a great job. It's no easy feat to play Sam's character this time around because of all that eyes and face movements that he needed to do as the alien symbols come out from his mind. Megan Fox was stunning as ever, only I don't understand why her Mikaela character seemed to be overly possessive of Sam and the guy didn't mind her so much. John Turturro and Ramon Rodriguez, the sidekicks, provided the necessary comic relief in the movie.
Technically speaking, the movie was superb. For one, it's action-packed and you won't feel robbed of your money when it comes to the animation and visual effects. Plot wise, the movie was a bit confusing. The scenes went like a mad roller coaster jumping from one rail to another. If you're not that attentive, there's a fat chance you'd get lost along the way.
Well, I guess seamlessness should never be expected from a sci-fi thriller as there will always be plot holes in it. Just like in Transformers 2. But what makes it fun to watch, I think, is that it satisfies our constant thirst for war scenes, unusual adventures, robotics and the unknown (e.g. aliens, universal stuff, etc.).
Overall, I can say Transformers 2 is a fun movie, the kind that can make for a good cinematic experience minus the technical fluency, grandiosity and depth of an award-winning film.
For those who did not enjoy the movie as much as I did and still have questions hanging in their heads until now, you may be interested to read the 10 Most Confusing Things in Transformers 2.
