On Being a Meat Eater and the Health Benefits of Fish
But as we age, our body functions get slower and our immune system gets weaker and more prone to diseases. Studies show that in this time of technology and fast food, people die of lifestyle diseases instead of those that are caused by viruses. The growing number of people from all over the world suffering from heart failure, stroke, diabetes, arthritis and cancer or a combination of these diseases is a clear proof of this claim. One cannot just sit down and wait for his time to acquire any of these serious ailments known to man.
This year, I decided to go the healthy way. I think it’s about time. I started with my diet. I now eat meat in moderation. When I have a choice, like when I’m in a social event, I go for fish and chicken. They’re healthier than red meat. I particularly love fish and I’m happy that I get a lot of nutritional benefits from fish oil omega 3 fatty acids. My favorites are tuna, milkfish, grouper and salmon, among others.
Our body needs a steady supply of omega 3 fatty acids to keep our hearts healthy. For those who don’t like eating fish because of its inherent slimy texture, you may opt to take omega 3 health supplements instead. Getting healthy is no easy task. We have to start educating ourselves on proper and balance nutrition so we know what our body really needs. And yes, fish is healthy so as a meat eater, I’ll continue eating fish to my heart’s content.
